Fashion is as old as the mountains of the world and it has evolved with a man over decades and centuries, yet there is still an unending struggle to get it right. Oftentimes, in a bid to look elegant and stylish, most people step out of their apartments looking the opposite of what they had in mind.

But, what exactly does it mean to make a fashion statement? In my opinion, it is a bold way of dressing up and showing up without looking ridiculous or out of place yet still leaving a lasting impression in the minds of everyone. It is also the fine art of not blending into the crowd; the act of standing out.

A friend once told me of a young couple who showed up to an engagement party in matching grey shorts, dark green tees, brown cowboy hats, and black boots. They looked great in their fit but the room
was filled with men and women of different races and tribes swaying to the tune of a classic jazz performance, all dressed in elegant black evening dresses and stylish tuxedos. Of course, they stood out like a sore thumb and heads turned in their direction but they were denied access to the rest of the party.

Although it's great to stand out, the ultimate key to making a fashion statement is ensuring that your look fits the occasion. I’m sure you know that you can’t turn up to a wedding in a bikini or the gym in a pair of blazers even if you feel like it. In essence, making a fashion statement is not just about wearing what feels right for you.

Another tip is to dress comfortably. While it is okay to explore fashion and step out of your comfort zone once in a while, the trick is to know how to balance it out. Imagine pitching to an audience of potential investors about your business and they can hardly concentrate on your pitch deck because your eyes are teary from wearing faux lashes for the first time.

That’s not a good one.

Always ensure that your dressing leaves room for you to breathe, move, and shine without obstructions.

Finally, master your style.

Everyone has a style. It is our means of expressing our true selves through various mediums, including but not limited to our choice of fabrics, colors, patterns, hairstyles, accessories, and more. Still, it is unfortunate that as unique as our styles are, most people often choose to walk in the shadows of other people's styles. While it’s not wrong to hop on a fashion trend, I think trends should fit into your style and not the other way round.

If you want to make a statement at any event, you need to create your style and own it. And repetition is key to owning a style.

The same way you repeatedly and consistently put your business in the face of people so that they can remember you as the owner is the same way you should slip your style into any look for any occasion, every time. Remember, fashion statements can be great or naaahhhh but you have a choice to decide which one it gets to be.

Being an entrepreneur is a learning journey; people’s buying habits change, the market change, and technology changes. Your ability to deal with these changes helps you stay in the game. Being relevant is a product of hard work and consistent improvement in life. I have discovered that success takes a holistic approach. It is beyond perfecting a skill instead of developing a better perspective towards growth and life as a whole.

Self-development can be a catalyst of change that brings you closer to your business. The more you grow, the better decisions you make and the more you can grow your business.

Here are Self-development Habits I Practice Regularly

#1 Read books.

“The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you’ll go.” - Dr Seuss

Reading can expand your knowledge and improve your critical thinking skills. Try setting a reading goal every month to learn something new. There are many self-help and business books out there. Some books like The Richest Man in Babylon by George Clason can be of great help.

#2 Observe others.

Aside reading, studying high profile individuals is relevant for growth. While books gives a visual representation of people’s mindset, observing their lifestyle reflects their true self. You observe their way of life, communication style, fashion style and many more. If you have people who inspire you, identifying the qualities you admire in them will be helpful. Moreso, ensure that you replicate them in your life.

#3 Ask for feedback.

I have come to observe that the reason many people are stuck is because they ignore the importance of feedback. Have you ever been stuck in mediocre situation? Perhaps, you have always repeated the same mistakes at work. One day, you realize there is a way out because you ask questions or summed up courage to ask for feedback. Getting feedback from your colleagues, friends, or superiors is a great way to grow. After completing any project, approach any of these people to give you feedback. You can also ask for feedback regarding your attitude to work, interpersonal and communication skills. Sometimes, you learn new methods for self-improvement when you ask for feedback.

#4 Find a life coach or mentor

As a business coach, I am passionate about helping business owners grow. However, I did not become a coach in one day. I learnt from others, attende conferences, read books and practiced the above. One of the best ways to achieve success is finding a life coach. Coaches are individuals who have experience in specific areas. Finding a coach in the area you struggle with the most is a great way to grow.

Finally, personal development impacts your business and relationships with others. This results in becoming the best version of yourself.

Think back at the last networking event you attended. Were you nervous about joining an exciting conversation? Did you prefer to spend most of the event all by yourself? If you have ever experienced a sense of dread at any event, you are not alone. Networking is challenging for many people. However, the benefits outweigh the downsides. As a business consultant and seasoned speaker, I have built credible relationships and collaborated with people I met at events. Many people have also gotten hired at different events. Interestingly, most people think networking is all about exchanging business cards. However, networking is often more about engaging with people you meet at events.

Here is a four-step guide to effective networking to help get you started:

#1 Introduce yourself: An introduction is important because it creates people's first impression of you. When you meet someone for the first time, speak up, make eye contact, avoid filler words, and speak confidently. If you would like to join an ongoing conversation, be polite and direct. Try phrases like, “Do you mind if I join you?” You can also ask the people in groups questions like, “What brought you here tonight?”, “How long have you known each other?”

#2 Make a connection: Ensure that you find similarities that you share with people. Connections such as same alumni, fellowship, business industry, and others can help you create a deeper connection with people. You can make a great connection during the introduction.

#3 Ask questions: While there is no blanket guide to asking questions at an event, you must understand that you cannot ask hundreds of questions from someone. Too many questions bore people. Rather than asking several boring questions, think about asking an intelligent question about the other person.

I have heard so much about you, and I love your passion. Why are you so fascinated by this industry? Why do you find this country a great place to invest?

You can continue the conversation based on their responses.

#4 Explain what you do: A sales pitch about yourself can lead to a multi-dollar contract. That is how important introducing yourself is. Avoid all industry jargon and describe the value you add. Ensure that you keep your business pitch concise and convincing.

#5 Exit honorably: Whenever you need to exit yourself from a conversation, do so gracefully. If the conversation went well, you can exchange business cards and make a plan to keep in touch after the event. If it didn’t go well, you have to understand that you can’t connect with everyone.

One of the secrets to networking at events is building lasting relationships instead of focusing on your immediate business need.

Leadership often entails building and training others. As a successful network marketing leader, I have successfully built different teams with unique systems and structures. As a seasoned speaker, I empower network marketers and educate them on how to become excellent trainers.

Here are five effective training techniques I employ

  1. The power of duplication: One element that proves excellent leadership is how well your team member can represent your values. That phenomenon is known as duplication. As a leader, your strength, progress, and profitability are dependent on your team members. Your team’s weakness or inability is detrimental to your business growth. Thus, you need to empower your team members to be able to do well in the places you are needed.
  2. Goals for Motivation: Training your team is never easy. However, it can be an easy journey when you have a goal-driven team. A goal-driven team is a consistently motivated one and with easy access to resources, they can make growth to become exponential. A goal-driven team also drives its team members to embrace new challenges and face their fears.
  3. The Self-development Culture: Self-development is critical to your team's growth. Successful companies today thrive on their team members ability to evolve. Regardless of the level of competence your team members have, leaders need to educate and empower their teams as a matter of principle. One of the ways to educate is to offer opportunities for self-development. Introduce team members to events, webinars, and fellowships that will improve them. Always share resources that will enhance their growth, and expand their view about network marketing.

4. Create consistent workshops: I have created different kinds of workshops and webinars for other network marketers over the years. I have since discovered that teaching people fosters collaboration and increases communication.

There are few rules to consider before creating a workshop:

  • Will the workshop be physical or online?
  • Is there a fee attached to the workshop?
  • Will there be a guest?
  • What will be the main focus of the training?
  • Will the training be consistent or one-time training?

Knowing the answers to these questions will help you design the best team-building opportunity.

In conclusion, there are many ways to train your team members effectively. You can also discover and create your technique based on your kind of team. Whatever your dreams are as a leader, be willing to help others achieve theirs while you pursue yours.

Productivity Hacks For Greater Efficiency & Growth

  1. Always Prioritize

Setting priorities are important for business efficiency. It enables you to make the right choice and save time. Learn to prioritize your time, goals, and daily activities. Ensure that you prioritize essential activities such as training for your team members, meeting with your partners and customers, and following up on your prospects. The truth is that you have to learn to prioritize even while multitasking. There will always be tasks to complete. You may never be able to finish these tasks; however, your productivity level will increase exponentially when you order your work by priority levels.

2. Time management

Time is a crucial element when running a business, and every minute or second counts. Time management is critical to business growth and productivity. One of the most effective time management strategies is Steven Covey’s Four Quadrants of time management. These quadrants focus on identifying the most important activities. The four quadrants require you to rank activities by the following:

  • Urgent and important
  • Urgent and unimportant
  • Important and not urgent
  • Not important and not urgent

3. Avoid Procrastination

Procrastination is when you choose to do something else other than the initial task you had set out to do. Procrastination often involves ignoring an unpleasant but more critical task to enjoy comfort or do things that are less difficult. Procrastination will reduce your productivity and cause you to miss important goals.

4. Recruit the Best Talent

People are pillars for your businesses. They complete projects, and this leads to the company’s growth. As a leader, it's important to spend more time acquiring and keeping the best people in your team. This makes sure that you are not tempted to micro-manage people. While it is advisable that you invest in people, ensure that you invest in people who support your dreams and visions. Do these people's dreams align with yours? Then you are on the right track.

5. Learn to say No

Saying No to speaking engagements and meetings is not entirely wrong. It is pivotal to prioritize your personal development over other things that may require more time than you have. Attending multiple meetings at the expense of your growth is detrimental because you will not have time to focus on what’s truly important.
